The history of our grandparents is remembered not with rose petals but in the laughter and tears of their children and their children’s children. It is into us that the lives of grandparents have gone. It is in us that their history becomes a future.

Grandma Curtis’ Brown Bread
1 Cup Buttermilk
½ cup brown sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 ½ cups graham flour
Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Should be as thick as a loaf cake. It may take a little more flour. Pour in greased bread pan and bake for 45 minutes at oven set to 300 degrees.
*** The recipe suggests using a loaf pan but family tradition says that grandma often made the bread in a tin can.
